Houston-Abu Dhabi Sister City Association
Many countries develop a sister relationship into a common partnership working together towards development and growth. The relationship is initiated and recognized by the highest appointed or elected official from both cities. After that, the leaders from both parties sign an agreement to become sister cities.
The sister cities concept is traceable to 1956 when President Dwight Eisenhower suggested there should be a link between American cities and other global cities to aid in exchanging ideas, professionals, and cultures. Dwight's goal was to incorporate people from different economic and ethnic backgrounds in citizen diplomacy with the hope that the relations would promote mutual respect, peace and understanding between different cultures.
On 26 October 2002, during a high-level official visit to Abu Dhabi by The Honorable Lee Brown, then Mayor of Houston, His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed Al Hamed, then chairman of Abu Dhabi Municipality and Mayor Brown signed an agreement to commence a sister-city relationship.
The Houston-Abu Dhabi Sister City Association's principal mission is to explore and promote ideas between the two cities and develop a comprehensive method to share ideas and experiences.
Houston is a unique city featuring a dynamic mix of talent, imagination, and first-class attractions, making it a world-class city. Besides this, the city houses a vibrant economy and beautiful surroundings.
Abu Dhabi is the capital city of the United Arab Emirates, an emirate comprised of over 200 islands. It's home to many tourist attractions and cultural sites, such as the Louvre, Ferrari park, etc.
